This event is the first in the ancestral series curated by Sitron F Panopoulos and Rushika Wick.

This is a devotional community reading – dwelling with words and worlds. All are welcome. The intention of this reading is to enter the book together, immersing ourselves in the timescape demanded by the text in a radical act of refusal of surface, and commitment to depth where ancestral voices may be heard.

We will read this work together, taking turns round a circle. This will be a relaxed reading with people free to quietly come and go as they please. The reading will be continuous until the time in Present Tense comes to an end. Candles will be lit as a gesture to the late Alice Notley, please bring a candle to contribute to the alter if you wish.

Ancestral aims to celebrate and engage with specific late modernist or contemporary poets, their gifts and strange fruit. Each session will be a little different, but expect some introduction slides, readings and communal writing practice. There will be guest poets and the opportunity to share your own work. Ritual and solidarity will feature.
