Tabula Rasa - Canvas 6

Reading, Reflecting, Multi-Sensory

19:00 -22:00
ta•bu•la ra•sa

(noun)

  1. an absence of preconceived ideas or predetermined goals; a clean slate
  2. a space for communion; an exercise in synergy propelled by sonic exploration.

Canvas 6 continues the unfolding language of tabula_rasa ; a space where sound and presence dissolve into one another and the line between audience and performer is gently undone.

The evening drifts into being with a collective improvisation ; with percussion like weather against wood and air, voices moving between whisper and invocation, objects made to sing, words as fragments weaving through and a shifting sonic current holding it all together. A dance of rhythm, material and memory.

Kit Gordon is an artist, composer and drummer working off-grid in a cabin on London’s edge. An advocate of the unpolished, untreated and improvised, his archival songwriting, on-the-fly performances and outdoor field recordings have earned him recognition across the experimental, folk and contemporary musical spaces. His live shows are mostly site-responsive, shaped by the space and environment around them. Recent collaborations include Damsel Elysium, Ben Vince and El Hardwick, with performances at Space Talk, Spanners and 180 Fact, with commissions from the Royal Academy of Arts, Adidas and Gucci.

Betty C Fan is a London based, Taiwanese artist who hand sculpts speculative instruments, objects that tend toward primal natural forms, and activates them through voice and improvised sound performances. Her practice listens for what’s vanishing, sounds hidden beneath cultural layers or fading with ecological loss, and draws them back out through sculptural instruments. Betty has performed at Saatchi Gallery, Copeland Gallery, and across London’s independent art galleries and music spaces. She joins the session with a collection of handmade objects and a voice that knows how to follow them.

Bianca Pina is a poet, object maker and ideator. Her practice spans writing, spatial design, energy work and group facilitation, held together by an ongoing inquiry into perception, meaning-making, and the movement between inner and outer worlds. She is the founder and programmer of Present Tense, a community space in Newington Green dedicated to poetry and poetics.
