The Menstrual Hut - Anti-war Crafting Circle

11:30am to 6pm
Present Tense, 4 Ferntower Road, Newington Green, London N5 2JG
£10 suggested donation
For this dark moon, we are deeply honoured to welcome the Anti-War Crafting Circle to lead this Menstrual Hut.
An immersive, one-day workshop making small woollen doll heads, each carrying a unique message from the doll’s perspective. No experience is required. Experienced doll maker Sevim Metin will guide you through the process step by step.
In a world fracturing under war, genocide and patriarchal destruction, our gathering is an act of resistance. We meet to cultivate life, collective care and connection. These figures are not created to represent any single group, but to offer a unified, collective stand against all warfare.
We ask that you donate your dolls to the Anti-War Crafting Circle so they may be exhibited together in spaces and galleries worldwide.
We will begin in the light and end in darkness, connecting us to the dark moon. There will be a 40-minute break halfway through. If you can, please bring some food to share.
This gathering is open to all women, non-binary and transgender people. We ask everyone to help create a safe, caring space and to keep any personal experiences or feelings shared within the circle confidential.

The Menstrual Hut was conceived and brought to life by a group of like minded women in London, each bringing a unique and powerful perspective to the movement. We are:
Lex Franchi, our artist and co-ordinator with Present Tense, studied sculpture at the Slade School of Art, her practice is rooted in ritual, the moon and menstrual magic. Lex is most well known for her Moonclocks.
Camilla Power, our resident anthropologist. She is the pioneer of ‘Female Cosmetic Coalitions’ and runs the Radical Anthropology Group at UCL.
Hilary Alton, our author, anthropologist, and our special Menstrual Hut Elder.
Christine Binnie, our artist and potter whose public body-painted performances with the Neo Naturists, have been inspired by her anthropological interests.
Heloise Lepinard, our fabulous French Witch, anthropologist, creative and up and coming author.
Freddie Birley, our amazing breath work specialist and founder of her business House of Pop. And finally,
Olivia Knight, all round creative, thinker and furthermore, daughter of Chris Knight whose revolutionary ‘Sex Strike’ theory forms much of the force behind The Menstrual Hut.
