The Menstrual Hut - Rivers

19:00 - 21:00
This November, join us for a sacred gathering as we honour the ancient connection between women and rivers. A long time ago in Europe and still today in some societies, river godesses are praised. In the magical space of The Menstrual Hut at Present Tense, we will embrace the life-giving energy of the flow and cycles that we share with the river. Together, we will participate in a guided river ritual led by the visionary Héloïse Lepinard.
We invite you to bring a gift for the river(s) in your life. This offering can take any form - a poem, a dance, a song, an object and so on.

The Menstrual Hut is a sacred space for rituals, storytelling, collective rest, herbal knowledge and lunar rooted practices to honour the body’s cyclical nature and to reclaim menstruation as a powerful, political and collective experience.
The Menstrual hut meets cyclically, once a month on every dark moon, 7-9pm. It is women’s time and space, transgender and non binary inclusive. All ages welcome.

The Menstrual Hut was conceived and brought to life by a group of like minded women in London, each bringing a unique and powerful perspective to the movement. We are:
Lex Franchi, our artist and co-ordinator with Present Tense, studied sculpture at the Slade School of Art, her practice is rooted in ritual, the moon and menstrual magic. Lex is most well known for her Moonclocks.
Camilla Power, our resident anthropologist. She is the pioneer of ‘Female Cosmetic Coalitions’ and runs the Radical Anthropology Group at UCL.
Hilary Alton, our author, anthropologist, and our special Menstrual Hut Elder.
Christine Binnie, our artist and potter whose public body-painted performances with the Neo Naturists, have been inspired by her anthropological interests.
Heloise Lepinard, our fabulous French Witch, anthropologist, creative and up and coming author.
Freddie Birley, our amazing breath work specialist and founder of her business House of Pop. And finally,
Olivia Knight, all round creative, thinker and furthermore, daughter of Chris Knight whose revolutionary ‘Sex Strike’ theory forms much of the force behind The Menstrual Hut.
